R. delivered the most amazing and touching presentation today for the class. I don't think she rehearsed it, she just asked to present. She explained about how most kids learn to read with the left side of their brains and yet she reads with her right. She showed the project she has been working on with Mme McC and answered the many questions the students had. She explained how and why she uses an iPad to help her with her reading and writing.
It was so amazing! I wish I had videoed it but she was half way through and I was in shock of how wonderful and real her presentation was and then I thought I should have videoed it. I had no idea.
It was such a proud moment for me and with tears in my eyes, I realized how far she has come this year. Thank-you to everyone for supporting her and allowing this to happen.

It was really easy. It helped me learn how to actually read.
That was the way that I learned how to read. Then I would get it more in my mind and then I would know.
I would know that that was ‘basketball’, ‘soccer’, ‘goalie’, ‘shoulder’ just like that.
Showing me the word and I saying it after her, gets it more in my mind.

The one thing that I have noticed in working with my two boys is their increased confidence in themselves as readers. Both boys were defeated by their reading ability when I got them this year – in grade 2 - and hated reading.
We had an open house on Thursday and both sets of parents can't believe the difference in their son's attitude towards reading and learning - it has been a renewal of enthusiasm.
This increase in confidence has transferred to all areas of the learning, and both boys are now reading at grade level!

Hi Jen, I had to share an email from the parent who bought the book from you. I am so happy I was able to get him going on this!
“Here is his stuff so far from Right Brain Reading. It's going great! He loves learning to read now! And he can fully read all these stories. He has drawn some pictures too that we can hopefully scan and add somehow. Thanks!”

Hi Jennifer, Here are some reflections from some of my Right Brain Readers, using your method:
Grade 6 Boy – Reading at beginning grade 2 level: “I like coming to RBR. It is fun. I like that I get to make the books about things that interest me. I’m learning a lot of new words.”
Grade 2 Girl – Increased 8 levels last year from March – June and continues to be growing as a reader “It is fun. I got to make books on my own. I loved choosing the pictures for my books, they helped me remember the words.”
Grade 4 Boy – 2nd year with RBR making slow, but steady progress, Reading at mid grade 2 level. “I always get to imagine what I want to write about. I can see the words in my head. I always like going to RBR. I’m proud of all the books I’ve made. I even get to read my books to the Kindergarten class. They love them.”
Grade 4 Girl – 2nd year with RBR – Beginning grade 1 level “ I love RHR. I can’t read other books, but I can read my own books.”

“This class helps me read.
I am doing way better at reading at home.
So, yeah, I wish it didn’t end.
I wish we were doing more of this.”

He said he loved how you let him pick words from things he was interested in, like Minecraft, science stuff, dragon book etc. He said that words from what he liked was easier to want to learn. He worked better by seeing the words as opposed to sounding it out. This was the biggest help. Once he found how he learned he didn't feel so dumb and that he really could learn how to read.
By him learning how to read, slowly but surely, it has helped build his confidence and now, for the first time ever, doesn't feel so afraid of words. He looked forward to working on reading, again a first!
For the first time in his life Devan was actually able to read! He has changed so much by getting the confidence you helped him find by discovering this learning style and adapting a program to suit his needs and not just a standard learning style. For Devan’s entire school years any reading was a battle and I felt like I was losing. He would shut down and his tantrums were more and more aggressive.
You helped a boy go from fearing, hating and feeling utterly depressed about trying to read to feeling accomplished and excited that he CAN read!
